They starve to death easily because they don't move fast enough to a spot with better current and more food. They are interesting to watch when you first drop them in or turn the substrate but once burrowed in all you see is 2 holes that suck in and squirt out water. Also remove them if you use any medicines at all in the tank. You'll have a die off even using things like melafix. They are extrememly sensitive. It depends what and how much you feed as to how many you can keep. When I feed shrimp pellets the tetras grab them and swim around leaving a cloud of particles behind which I'm sure the clams love. If I feed more solid foods like new life spectrum pellets for several weeks then I'll start to lose clams to starvation. I can keep about 25 alive in a 55g, 5-8 in the 10g fry tank, and 15 in my 20g rivertank with lots of current to bring them food. |

The plants won't really affect them. They'll just find a spot between roots to sit in. If you stick with only a few and place them in the highest current area you should be fine. |
