a local grocery store usually stocks live clams and mussels. the clerks assume the clams are saltwater, but they have no idea about the mussels. when i tell them i want to stick some in a freshwater tank, they look at me as if i am crazy. none of my lfs carry freshwater mulloscs, and the grocery store's are dirt cheap. all the pics i found on the web-sites look fairly similar to me.

i know it would be easier to buy some online- but the idea of getting aquarium stock from a grocery store intriques me (check out the live freshwater eels in some of the asian grocery stores- amazing). plus i like doing things on the "cheap".

could a saltwater mussel adapt to freshwater? how about brackish ( they would be in their own tank- i could add some sea salt to it)? any ideas?

brackish it could do (it will adapt better to brackish than to a frying pan!)

Make sure you get them the day they arrive, so they arent too sad and dried out.
