I found this little guy at a lcs, they were in a regular community tank of fish labelled freshwater crabs, max size 1.5". So now he is living in a small tank in my kitchen.

Is there a name for this type of crab other than 'freshwater crab'?

I was told they eat leftover fish food on the bottom, as well as things like shrimp pellets and bloodworms. Any other feeding suggestions?

At least once a day he will climb either the plants or heater and sit in the filter; do these crabs need somewhere to sit out of the water?

And other info would be appreciated as well

I believe it is a fiddler crab. If so it would like an area to be out of the water, and also would prefer brackish water.

Looks like a fiddler to me too, but i'm not sure what species.

He really does need an area to scramble out of the water. try a floating rock island or a piece of mangrove root sticking out.
