i was wondering if anyone could tell me anything about crayfish (especially electric blue). ive been seeing them at my local pet stores and none of the employees have a clue. i wanna put one in a comunity tank with as of right now 3 zebra danios a cory and an african clawed frog. i was wondering if it would be violent towards the others. also feeding and whatnot as well is a mystery to me. thanks ahead of time for any help.

if they are anything like regular crawfish. then they are scavangers and eat what ever they can find. bad thing is it will also eat what it can catch, so it might eat that frog of yours.

Not only would it eat the frog, it would eat the cory, and probably the danios as well. They'll eat whatever they can get their claws on, and won't hesitate to gobble up a fish that has been caught napping. I would add several cories to that tank instead, they are very active and happy when kept in groups of six or more.

The main appeal of the crawdad is just for looks. Most people don't have any, because smaller fish will get eaten. If you had a tank with good-sized cichlids, and maybe a large pleco, a crawdad would do fine, and wouldn't be able to eat any fish.

Actually I have some experience with crayfish. I have one in my 35 gallon tank with a few small fish and the crayfish spends most of his time hiding in the rocks and decorations and is actually quite content to eat anything that might reach the bottom of the tank and also likes to eat algae wafers. Hope this helps.

Would a crawdad work in malawi setup. Most fish are 2-4'' and its 75g. I also have three snails. Would you have to worry about them eating the crawdad when it molts.

With the cichlids in there, I'd worry more about the crawdad. It would be very vulnerable while molting.

I would be more worried about the crayfish and the snails. The snails would be an easy meal for the crayfish since they move so slow. I did have a crayfish in a tank with two small oscars and I would notice the crayfish would be missing claws where the oscars would make a snack out of them. I then moved the crayfish to a tank with three small convicts and the crayfish would be missing antenna every once in a while so I would be cautious about moving in a crayfish to a tank with any territorial fish.
