	death of nerites
tankie Fish Addict Posts: 857 Kudos: 848 Votes: 230 Registered: 15-Mar-2005	can someone tell me why my nerites died?? water parameters are fine o-o-5, ph=7.3, kh=5, gh=8, temp=77 and there are varieties of algae in the tank. thx

tankie Fish Addict Posts: 857 Kudos: 848 Votes: 230 Registered: 15-Mar-2005	tank is 20g occupants: 3 leopard danios 3 platies 5 rosy tetras 5 pandas no..i did not use any meds and i had only 2 of them..one died a week earlier. i do regular water changes (25%/week) and i had them for just 3 weeks. sham Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 3369 Kudos: 2782 Votes: 98 Registered: 21-Apr-2004	Does your water have alot of copper or other heavy metals? Do you use a water conditioner that bind heavy metals? Finally most nerites are saltwater snails. There are some brackish that survive in fresh but do not breed and 2 or 3 actual freshwater species. So make sure you really did buy freshwater nerites or brackish ones that were kept in fresh before.

A few lfs here don't feed their snails. They just assume they'll find enough food on the bottom of the tank. The snails might have been in poor shape when you got them.
