they are laying eggs and i keep scraping them off the glass, but the ones i already have.... do i pick them out and let them dry out or can i feed them to other fish?? they are in a tank with tetra's so no ones' touching them......maybe i could get a betta will he eat them??

I was just going to ask the same question... i have little pond snails all over the place and eggs too. i think they came in with some plants that i bought. other than smashing them and scraping the eggs off, is there anything else i can do.
the tank is lightly planted and already overstocked with guppy fry.

Bettas might eat them... But probably not... Your tank is too small for a snail eating loach.... I think the best idea would be to get a small glass vile (tube) and put a piece of lettuce in it... leave it in there over night... In the morning a ton of babel snails should be in the tube... Shake the tube over your garbage can and your done.

i use to have heaps of ramhorn snails and my female betta made light work of them, it was quite entertaining watching her stalk them! but apparently not everyone has the same success with female bettas.

iv also heard of people putting a few pennys in their filter, the copper kills them but iv never tried this myself.

its amazing how often this question comes up! hmmm sounds like someone should write something about this in the article section!

My male betta was awesome with young snails. He grabbed the top of their shell in his lip so it was flipped upside down, and sucked the meat right out! It was awesome to watch.

Put a slice of zucchini or cucumber down. Snails will stick all over it, I wager

Good luck!

...also, pennies in the filter-- wouldn't the copper harm fish, too?

the penny trick does indeed work, but it takes at least a few weeks to make sure you get all the eggs as well. the problem with the test tube solution is that you won't get the eggs, only the snails themselves.

Get a irrubesco or dwarf puffer, or even an amazonian one for a short period of time.

Once you have Snails, it's very very difficult to get rid of them. They are pests & so it would take a miracle to have 100% Snail Free Tank.

the copper treatment will kill all the snails, much better than a snail eating fish will. and it won't kill the fish or plants. leave the pennies in the filter for about a month and you should be snail free for good.

Greetings all... :-)

I recently had a huge snail infestation as well - but the guy at my LFS refused point black to sell me any sort of copper based medication on the grounds that (so I am told) it is toxic in acidic water.. Dunno how true that is or why he said it, but it may be relevant :-)

For me a couple of clown loaches did the trick - not a snail in weeks :-) <bliss>
