I think its cause my snails runs over the Mts and they get upset and set for revenage. Just like when my gouramis was picking on my snail, my snail got revenage.

The mts attacks have appeared only occasionally. Right now there are several people on applesnail.net trying to figure out exactly why mts sometimes kill applesnails but majority of the time get along fine. While it's not extremely common it is happening enough some people are worried.

i have a TON of MTS with my apple snails and they are both fine. occasionally an MTS will hitch a ride on the apple snails but otherwise they coexist pretty well.

If they do lay eggs just scrape them off. Occasionally a female snail will go wandering out of the tank to find a laying spot but the eggs rarely hatch if they are laid too far away because they dry out. Eggs need to be moist but not soaked. If your water is below 7.0 ph they may have shell problems. So long as your water is over ph 7.0 and has a moderate gh you don't need to worry too much about calcium. A liquid calcium supplement does help give them smoother shells but provided the water is hard enough they won't die without it. They will eat any fish food and like a veggie treat sometimes. Mine will eat any type of lettuce, cucumber, and kale. They also make off with bloodworms, flakes, shrimp pellets, and algae wafers that are meant more for the fish. If you want food made specifically for snails you can buy it at http://home.mchsi.com/~masts/feed_bag.htm

MTS and applesnails usually coexist fine but occasionally mts will attack and kill applesnails. The applesnails will have only a slight impact on the mts population by eating any eggs they find.

Also

I have just fed my betta who is a doing " i am being stroppy and ignoring my feed to scare you" type thing.

the snail has just eaten ALL the food that is on the floor of the tank. it is bare bottom (is that ok for the snail?)

its granular fish food. i am watching this poor snail's every move... I can see her insides through the shell is that normal?

and are snails ok with prima fix and mela fix?

(Bailey(betta) has been ill, and if she continues not to eat i may treat her with those meds? she had finrot/ weird stuff)

the snail is called sherridan.

thank you finally I think I need my bed!

Kim or any one really! do you have malaysian trumpet snails as well as apple snails?

i just wondered what affect having apple snails has on the MTS. In theory as i have sand i should love MTS but i don' t they make the tank look so untidy!

i may as well face it they are going to breed. i will just keep my eye on the Water quality.

cheers for the help you guys as ever have been great!

Mine go above the water an lay their eggs on the hood. Remember the snails can breathe out of water.

they are happyily exploring at the moment. The lady i bought them from has not supplied any instructions as she said she would. she ok'ed me keeping them with mollies and my female betta.

From what i have read, i can feed them algae wafers and may need to add liquid calcuim to the tank?

right now I just wonder if other people on here did anything special for their snails?

she may e mail instructions later today but mean while does algae wafers sound good?
thanks

They need some calcium for their shells & yes, they lay the eggs above the water line & i think they take 3/4 weeks to hatch. You can feed them some Lettuce & they really like it.

They lay them in clusters above the waterline. When they hatch, they fall into the water. If the eggs get in the water, they will drown

The calcium is to help harden their shells. I feed mine any leftover foods including frozen bloodworms and brine shrimp. Hikari Crab Cuisine has lots of calcium too. For a list of veggies that are high in calcium, www.applesnails.net
