it depends on what you mean by inverts? there are some bugs that you don't want in your tank, worms will live in your substrate and most of them are not too harmful to your plants and fish, and then there are snails and shrimp. did you have any specific inverts in mind??

shrimp you can keep in just about any tank, but you might want to make sure your fish won't eat them the lobster part, i would not keep with fish, but i'm not an expert on them.

I've seen those blue lobbies. They were in a LFS, the only purely fish LFS near me. They do great exotic fish. Anyone near swansea or cross hands should check them out. Mills aquatics.
I thought blue lobbies were saltwater though

Have you seen a crayfish? There cool just had to tell you, in case you have not.

Angel Eel
Sorry I cant help you one that last post but I'd say no to those two. I'm not an expert, but those fish are known to eat small fish (neon tetra size) Shrimp are smaller, I don't think I'd try.

Crayfish are so interesting to keep. The cray I used to have had the most interesting behaviors - crawling up plants to try and catch fish, shooting backwards when freaked out, not to mention it ate all the leftover food in my tank.

Personally, I think it was the coolest thing I've kept (just as cool as my figure 8 puffer). Just be careful though, they will go after any slow-moving fish. It won't catch anything that's fast enough. Plus, I put him in after I added my raphael spotted cat, and he actually shared the cave with him - not eat him. They are great cleaners and will keep your gravel much nicer - kind of an automatic gravel vacuum.

They grow pretty fast, though, so make sure you increase the size of his meals as he grows. I unfortunately didn't feed him enough after a few months. I think this was why he died (it was my very first tank).

Hope that helps convince you enough.

this is my intended stocking.

6 zebra danio
6 gold danio
4 redline torpedo barb
4 yoyo loach
2 bn cats.

would i be overstocked at that when they all reach full size?

i could put in a centerpiece in place of the tiger barbs but i think the redlines might be a bit boystrous for angels, any suggestions of anything colouful that would work?

Sounds about right. Various types of pictus will get to the 6 inch to a foot range and anything a couple inches or smaller will be a potential snack for sure.
