is Iodine necessary for shrimps? | |
Manix Hobbyist Posts: 62 Kudos: 48 Votes: 0 Registered: 18-Aug-2004 | I have 8 guppies, 11 Neon Tetras, 3 African Dwarf Frogs, and 1 Singapore Shrimp. I was wondering is adding Iodine necessary for the shrimp? and what does it do for the shrimp? If I do add Iodine, will it affect the Fishes and Frogs in any negative way? Thanks in advance. |

I don't know about frogs. Make sure you use reef iodine. Kent makes some as does Seachem. Add one drop per 5gal. Kim |

Manix Hobbyist Posts: 62 Kudos: 48 Votes: 0 Registered: 18-Aug-2004 | How would I know when the shrimp wants to molt? Does it show a different behavior than usual? I'll buy Iodine once i'm sure it will molt. |

Manix Hobbyist Posts: 62 Kudos: 48 Votes: 0 Registered: 18-Aug-2004 | I don't know the iodine content in my aquarium. So far it has been 4 weeks and the shrimp has been very active. So there might be enough iodine content in it already. |

AW0L Enthusiast Posts: 181 Votes: 0 Registered: 20-Jan-2004 | i have dozens of cherry shrimps in my tanks. i dose iodine but in a diffrent way. i use spinach to get the iodine in the water. spinach is high in iodine, plus the shrimp love to eat it and it will accelerate the growth of snails dramatcally. and the plecs will enjoy it. stick a small amount in the microwave for about 30 - 45 seconds to make it soft then toss it in the tank. the left overs spanch will go bad over time so its best to just chop it up and fill a ice try up with a little bit of water and freeze and use a chip of it when you need it. can also be blended and fed to growing brine shrimp which also accelerates there growth. you just have to have a good filter |
