large snails | |
agent_alice Hobbyist Posts: 114 Kudos: 115 Votes: 0 Registered: 11-Jul-2004 | i see those large snails for sale for about 3-4 bucks at pet stores, that are about quarter size or larger. I'm thinking of getting one, but are they hermaphroditic or do they need a partner in order to reproduce? Also how efficient are they in terms of eating algae/waste? Are there any cons (other than lots of offspring)? If they have lots of tiny babies, how do i get rid of them, without feeling guilty about killing them? |

Apples snails unlike most snails are not hermaphroditic, so they will not reproduce like crazy, like the pest snails that comes in on the plants. So if you just get you will be all set. As far as getting rid of them and not killing them, what I do is I put a piece of potato in the tank before I go to bed and in the morning you cant even see the potato because there are so many snails on it. I then pick up the potato and put it were I want them to be. good luck -topher |
