I have 2 fiddler crabs living in my 120gal tank. I don't see them very often since they like to hide under rocks. Today when I was cleaning the tank, I looked for them just to make sure they are still alive and well. I found the female, but the male is nowhere to be found unless he is buried in the gravel. I am 99% sure that he could not climb anything to esacape. If he died somewhere in the tank, wouldn't there be some evidence?

Well, it is a big tank . . .

It would definitely take a long time for a crab to disappear, even if the female wanted to eat some of him.

That's what I was thinking. I should find at least some evidence of him! I really don't think the female ate him becasue he was always more aggressive and she hid from him (though I could be wrong). Is there a possibility that he has buried himself in the gravel? I have very tiny gravel that is almost like sand. That is the only other thing I can think of.

Well, I think I just found evidence of my crab's demise. Looks like my fish picked him apart. I moved the surviving one to a tank with some smaller fish that won't see her as a tasty snack!

Sorry about your loss.
I just re-read your first post and noticed your tank size.

I did some basic research on fiddler crabs before when I had them and I read that they need some salt and the ability to climb out of the water every now and then. I'm not sure how reliable my source was (did google search), but that might be worth a look.
