setup for breeding MTS | |
Theresa_M Moderator Queen of Zoom Posts: 3649 Kudos: 4280 Votes: 790 Registered: 04-Jan-2004 | I've been having a lot of luck both with breeding MTS and selling them. I'm thinking about setting up a 1-2g tank just for breeding them and have some questions: -would I need a filter or would an airstone be adequate? -is substrate necessary? -plants? If anyone else has done a setup like this I'd appreciate knowing what worked for you ~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is water at the bottom of the ocean |

Spare plants wouldn't really hurt. I did have some in an unfiltered on oxygenated 5 gallon....key word did I have a feeling it was the unheated bit that managed to make them unhappy as I still have pondsnails....and they seem more than happy :%). Warmer temps, plenty of food, and the substrate should be enough :%). ^_^[hr width='40%'] "in any case, chocolate is hardly a rare comodity." said Chaos. Mainly take a snail, some water, put them together, and you'll have at least some success. A substrate to burrow in would be preferred and keeping the temps higher would make them multiply faster to a point. Most snails do better in cooler water even if they multiply faster in warmer water so I wouldn't pass 80F. Mts do fine in unheated tanks and will survive to near freezing but they won't multiply as fast. A filter and substrate would help keep the tank cycled and allow you to feed them more but all they really need is an airstone. More food=more snails. I have some mts breeding in a cup of water right now... It's a color I don't really like so I was seperating them out to lower their population and increase the population of the color I like. I stuck them in a cup until I decide what to do with them. |

I went with an airstone so I could switch to a sponge filter if necessary. By the way, I don't know if this is coincidence or not but after I started feeding mine fresh spinach and sweet potato I started getting some really nice colors. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is water at the bottom of the ocean |

Another idea...not sure if it's the wood or the algae from the wood but mine just love crawling all over the bits of driftwood. ^_^[hr width='40%'] "in any case, chocolate is hardly a rare comodity." said Chaos.
