HI and welcome to fishprofiles.com

I'm not the foremost expert in snails, but I do have one and I can tell you that mine made me think he was dead more than once. If you pick him up and touch him, you may see him move ever so slightly. But, snails can go inactive for days at a time and may even float during that time.

The best thing to do is to check water quality to start. What size tank is he in? Do you have the ability to check for ammonia, nitrites, nitrate, pH and kH?

What temp is he in?

I hope you will stay active here, but want to introduce you to the leading snail website.

ive checked applesnail.net. ive checked various websites concerning this.

everything is fine, no ammonia, nitrIte in 30s, nitrAte building up. ph is 7.6ish.

the temp is 70-72. i know about poking the trapdoor, pulling it, etc. shouldnt be temp problem because hes been in the 70-72 temp for awhile now. maybe its the water change i did today, not sure.

I'm confused - you say your nitrItes are at 30?

And, nitrates are building?

If yes to both, this sounds like a tank that is cycling. Cycling toxins can kill or damage snails.

Smell is another way. I guess they wreak if you pull them out and sniff them when dead, otherwise there should be no odor.

Cory is right - Take a good whiff over the tank water. If something smells really bad its your snail thats dead.
Dead snails, even tiny pond snails, smell terrible when they die!!!
