possum Hobbyist Posts: 68 Votes: 0 Registered: 30-Oct-2004 | i'm thinking of getting some snails for one of my tanks but i was wondering if that one gets crowed could i put more snails in a tank with a yoyo loach ( i read they are avid snail eaters) would that make no more snails in the tank or just keep the numbers down. |

They completely wiped out all the mTS in my 90g (over 200 of em) in 2 months. Some snails are fairly beneficial, MTS go through the gravel aerating it and cleaning it ... They are beneficial in a planted tank because it is hard to gravel vac. Mystery and apple snails will eat all kinds of algae. Whenever one of my tanks gets hair algae i move around my large mystery snail and he cleans up. If you have a sudden snail explosion like was listed above yo need to cut back on feeding. The only reason for snail explosions is excess food. I "breed" MTS in my ghost shrimp tank. Quite frankly they dont reproduce fast enough for my likes. And yes the yo-yos will take care of any excess snails you put in the tank. Bdadawg |
