"Gaint gourmai" | |
bettachris Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 3875 Kudos: 4173 Votes: 452 Registered: 13-Jun-2004 | aren't there two gaint gourmai. on the profiles it says that the really big gourami is called a gaint gourmaie, but i thought there is a smaller speciese called a gaint gourmai that only gets to about 4in, and looks like a tick lip gourmai. However, the true (in my eyes) is Osphronemus goramy, a beast that can top two feet in length. But yes, you were correct in thinking that there were two "giant" gouramis. We actually have Colisa fasciata at work, and they are labeled as giants. |

bensaf Fish Master Posts: 1978 Kudos: 1315 Registered: 08-Apr-2004 | The confusion comes from the latin name - Fasciata which means giant apparently. The "proper" common name for the smaller one is Indian Banded Gourami. Beautiful fish. The real giant does get huge. They are readily available live in any supermarket here in Indonesia as they are the most popular fish for cooking. They are delicious had one for lunch yesterday actually. That's not meant to offend any Giant Gourami owners, just a fact of life. I usually eat Tinfoil Barbs during the week too. They are very common here so are always used as food. Remember that age and treachery will always triumph over youth and ability. |
