Havent had the time yet, maybe once the living rooms painted :%)! I am swinging between the betta girls or a male paradise. Because of the worry that the girls might not get along I'm somewhat more likely to get a paradise :%). I'll let everyone know . ^_^[hr width='40%'] When angels cry blood, on flowers of evil in bloom and a plea for mercy, where Love is a gun separating me from you" ~ |

girlunderrainbow Big Fish Posts: 323 Kudos: 230 Votes: 0 Registered: 22-Aug-2003 | I've kept a single male paradise fish in a 12 gal before..was perfectly happy. I tried cories with him, and he sucked eyes out. That, or a few female bettas and maybe some ottos? I've had great luck with female bettas and females with a single male in larger tanks..you just have to be able to read personalities..and when TRYING to start them off together..know that the fish you want together in a tank..may not work and you may have to try different bettas till you find a good combo. |

sham Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 3369 Kudos: 2782 Votes: 98 Registered: 21-Apr-2004 | A male paradise would live alone in a 10g but they just looked bored to me and were a bit destructive to their tank. The females were much more content which is probably why they got along with tankmates instead of taking out their boredom and frustration on other fish. |

They like rocks , sand and need shells for breeding. Plants should be fine unless they specifically like acidic water. http://www.fishprofiles.com/site/aquarank.aspx |

I've been trying for multis for that tank for 2 years. The danios could be moved, they're old now though and anytime I've tried mixing danios from different tanks into one they always end up nippy %). ^_^[font color="#999999] Let's unwrite these pages and replace them with our own words We live on front porches and swing life away We get by just fine here on minimum wage If love is a labor I'll slave 'til the end I won't cross these streets until you hold my hand" Let's unwrite these pages and replace them with our own words We live on front porches and swing life away We get by just fine here on minimum wage If love is a labor I'll slave 'til the end I won't cross these streets until you hold my hand" |

Paradise dont need tankmates though do they Would one male work in the same way a male betta would? Still not sure what I'm gonna do with this tank and it's been like this almost a year :%). ^_^[font color="#999999] Let's unwrite these pages and replace them with our own words We live on front porches and swing life away We get by just fine here on minimum wage If love is a labor I'll slave 'til the end I won't cross these streets until you hold my hand" Let's unwrite these pages and replace them with our own words We live on front porches and swing life away We get by just fine here on minimum wage If love is a labor I'll slave 'til the end I won't cross these streets until you hold my hand" |

sham Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 3369 Kudos: 2782 Votes: 98 Registered: 21-Apr-2004 | A female paradise might work in a 10g with few tank mates such as a pair of livebearers or a couple danios. A male paradise is very likely to go after everything in sight. Especially if it is annoying(danios) or has long fins(guppies). Paradise fish are extremely intelligent and don't openly attack their tankmates. They stalk them. Even fast fish can't avoid these guys in a small tank because they will casually be swimming by and all of a sudden the fish nearest to them has no eye. My male paradise would quietly swim behind the plants and decorations until he got near my cories or otos and then strike them right in their eyes. I don't think the risk is worth it to try to fit a male paradise in a 10g tank with tankmates and because of how intelligent they are they are much more fun to watch in a big tank with plenty to do. The reason I stopped breeding paradise fish was because of how agressive the males were, the number of other fish that had lost eyes and fins, and I just didn't enjoy watching them in small tanks. I loved my 60g summer pond with paradise fish. Even from above they were great to watch but in a 10g they were so boring compared to the pond. It just didn't seem fair to them. Female paradise like bettas are more peaceful and have about the same chance of working as female bettas. Last edited by sham at 10-Sep-2005 15:18 |

Babelfish Administrator Small Fry with Ketchup Posts: 6833 Kudos: 8324 Votes: 1570 Registered: 17-Apr-2003 | Hey all I'm still trying to find something for my 10 gallon that's at the office. Currently it has the last two of some of my original danios, and is somewhat planted. I've been considering a few female bettas, or a paradise although seems most people suggest a 20 for a paradise. What have your experiences been with multiple betta girls (I was thinking 2-5) in a 10 or with paradise fish. T'anks in advance! ^_^[hr width='40%'] Hang it on a shelf in good health and good time... Two Tanks Big Fish Posts: 449 Kudos: 328 Votes: 13 Registered: 02-Jun-2003 | I would go with a single female betta. I tried a paradise fish in my 29 gallon with danios and it was way to aggressive - began to stalk my adult danios and corys...have since moved him/her to a tank of its own. I think mine may be a male, but am not entirely sure. You won't have any problems with just one female betta, and she will control the fry population. |

Babelfish Administrator Small Fry with Ketchup Posts: 6833 Kudos: 8324 Votes: 1570 Registered: 17-Apr-2003 | Thanks for the experiences everyone! Sneaky I like the idea of the fry controll from the paradise. I suppose betta girls would be the same if I can't find one ...or might they have issues with the male guppies tails I've contemplated livebearers before but was rather worried about fry control. ^_^[hr width='40%'] Hang it on a shelf in good health and good time... kitten Fish Guru Meow? Posts: 2266 Kudos: 2194 Votes: 19 Registered: 18-Nov-2003 | I've kept several female bettas in a 12 gallon (same footprint as 10 gallon, just a few inches taller) and haven't had many problems. There's currently four in there with uh... four male guppies. No aggression, no real problems. I did have a fifth betta girl in there and had to take her out because of aggression. I tossed her into my main betta girl community (20 long) in which she is the smallest. Voila... no agression there! Served her right. She's the only betta girl I've had issues with, really, and I've had many girls. ~Meow. Thus spoke the cat.~ |
