Is it possible to have 2 male dwarf gourami's of different colour variations/species in the same tank? I can't find female gourami's anywhere.

Otherwise, what smaller fish are compatible to live with gourami's.

Male dwarf gouramis are usually compatible. As long as they have enough space, they should get along. Dwarf gouramis tend to be more peaceful than other gouramis, such as blues. What size tank are you planning to put them in?

I'm not surprised that you can't find a female. They can be very tough to find. Stores usually don't sell them, because their colors are not as bright as the males'.

They are, however, usually available to shops...so ask your LFS if they can bring you in a female with their next order.

Well I already have 1 PB Dwarf Gourami, and I was thinking of getting him some kind of companion.
He's in a 10G at work *so I'm not here to amuse him on the weekends or over vacations*.
I'm hoping eventually to convince my boss to let us have something like a 55G here =D

I have a few plants in there, but nothing magor. If I wanted to add another male of a different colour, would I have to heavily plant this tank?

You don't have to add more plants. IME, dwarves can exhibit some aggression towards others and each other, you might be be luckier than I.
Even if you weren't, you're providing a lot of space for both to have their own territories.
