3 spot Gourami Confusion (sexing, breeding) | |
exu Hobbyist Posts: 68 Kudos: 43 Votes: 1 Registered: 12-May-2004 | I had a pair of breeding 3 Spot gouramis. The male, unfortunately, got very sick and died. So, I purchased another one hoping I would get a male (did my best to sex them as juveniles). In the end I had thought I ended up with a female and pretty much just decided to live with it. Now the younger one is the same size as the older female and I am wondering if its not a male. The dorsal fin does have some point to it, while my female is very much rounded. I have not seen any bubblenest like I had in the past (old pair), but they are exhibiting some behavior that I hoped could be explained. I have recently moved them into a 55Gal (2 weeks ago) and while they go everywhere, they will sudden square off in the dead center of the tank. As if they drew a line across the center. The both get very dark blue and start lip locking. Stop, both move away from each other and then grab a breath of air at the surface and promptly repeat. They will do this 4 - 6 times and then take a break only to be seen doing it again later. Is this any sort of breeding behavior or are they fighting for dominance? |
