You're going to have SOME sort of fighting going on, at least for a while. Give it at least a week I'd say, unless you see someone getting nasty. ~Meow. Thus spoke the cat.~ |

They are called plastic needle work grids. i got them at a local hobby store, theyre are the easily cutable, they come in many colors, and since they have holes in them the allow water movement. and they only cost 40 to 50 cents (rather than $6 for a "real"divider). dogmai333 Hobbyist Posts: 90 Kudos: 79 Votes: 19 Registered: 03-Feb-2005 | I was thinking that since the new ones contrast my older one so much to put another divider in and have it split 3 ways. that way it would have the dark blue girl in the middle and the others on the outside. And any thoughts on what kind of filtration unit i could use, i know something with not a lot of current, so what do youi guys and gals think? Thanks so much for all the replies! dogmai333 Hobbyist Posts: 90 Kudos: 79 Votes: 19 Registered: 03-Feb-2005 | Alright, right now i have an impromptu divider so that they cant get each other. The new ones dont attack each other, like some of you said, which is good. Any suggestions on what i should do if this doesnt work out? MONKEYS ARE COOL, BUT SEA-MONKEYS ARE BETTER. |

hzrds Hobbyist Posts: 60 Kudos: 44 Votes: 1 Registered: 08-Jun-2005 | In my personal experience I have never been able to keep more than one female betta together. I've seen it done, I've heard about it being done, but not even 10 minutes ago we just had to seperate our two new females because once they got comfortable in their new surroundings they started dueling. So best of luck with that, I'd like to hear of any suggestions to make this work other than to let one get killed and add another one until we find compatible tankmates. |

If you have a tank divider try placing that in the tank and give them some additional time to adjust to seeing each other. After a week of so remove the divider and see if the aggression is still there. |

dogmai333 Hobbyist Posts: 90 Kudos: 79 Votes: 19 Registered: 03-Feb-2005 | Ok today i got 2 more female bettas to go in my tank and they are fine with each other but they and my older female betta are flaring at each other. How long before they stop? I know that if they dont i will split them up, how long should i wait? I figure a day or two at most because my older Betta (Taco) just got her fins back from being nipped at in my other tank thats why i got this tank. Any ideas would be welcome. Well any way my new ones are named Burrito and Churro. Taco is Very Dark Blue so i got lighter ones to contrast her. Burrito has a light pink body and red fins, and Churro is almost pure white with a blue and purple tint. MONKEYS ARE COOL, BUT SEA-MONKEYS ARE BETTER. |

kitten Fish Guru Meow? Posts: 2266 Kudos: 2194 Votes: 19 Registered: 18-Nov-2003 | Well, first off, without a heater, your choices are limited. As your best idea, I'd say ghost shrimp. You COULD put another betta girl in there, but you don't know how the two will get along. With the addition of a 25 watt heater (they're about 15 bucks here), you can expand your choices quite a bit. Let me pull out my Small Tank Stocking article so you can peruse it. It's the rather large post (white on black) about halfway down the page. Last edited by Kitten at 09-Jun-2005 09:52 ~Meow. Another female betta is chancy...you could try as long as you have another tank in case things go bad. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is water at the bottom of the ocean |

Most Corydoras species should be kept in groups of at least six, and almost all will get too large for that size tank. The danios will get too large and active for a five and a half gallon as well, so they should not be included in my opinion. |
