Hi there, I am just about to try and breed a pair of bettas but I have run into a slight hitch. It seems that they are quite intent on killing each other . Anyway I havent lowered the barrier between the female and the male but every time I see them both they are flaring and pecking at the barrier.

Anyhow, I doubt theres anything I can do that can lighten their moods but if the34re is, PLEASE let me know.

Well, that is exactly what happened when I bred my Bettas for the first time. When I released her, they started to chase each other around, which is normal. As long as the male has a bubblenest and the female is full of eggs, her egg tube is sticking out and has vertical stripes, they are ready to breed. But in your circumstances, all this may not happen considering your Bettas are completely different from mine (I think). So anyway, if they are showing the signs then I guess they will breed.

Did you condition them on high proten food for about 2 weks? Did you put the male into the breeding tank girst? did you leave the female in her 'lantern' til they were both showing signs they were ready? (head down dance, striping, displaying)

if not, remove the female and try again in a few days, preferably before the next rain.

I havent completely been feeding them live foodss and it hasnt been 2 weeks yet. I have been feeding them on blackworms and Hikari Bio Betta Gold.

The female was second to go into the tank and its a red female which (I have been led to believe) do not get stripes.

They havent been together for 2 weeks yet.

I have not let the barrier down yet.

I gotta say though, the female has had her head down though. The male doesnt show the same behaviour.

ok, the male should be displaying, not flaring so much, he should go up to the barrier and extend his fins and sort of vibrate, its hard to explain.
reds should get breeding stripes whites and yellows are the ones that you have trouble with cause you can't see them, reds should be fine.

your humidity and pH are fine? if the water is warm, you can do a wmall water change with cold water, simulating rain, that seems to be a common thing to get them in the mood.
