Cichlid Keeper Big Fish Posts: 368 Kudos: 466 Votes: 304 Registered: 17-Aug-2003 | Actually, I only added 2 cories at the present time. The tank itself is not fully cycled yet(thou I have added some gravel and about 1/2 gallon from one of my other tanks),so I don't want to add to many fish right now. Plus I really want to see how well he takes to other fish being in the tank. So far so good he really doesn't seem to be paying them any attention. |

I'll probably wait a couple of weeks and see how these guys do before I attempt to add anything else. |

trystianity Mega Fish Posts: 1028 Kudos: 926 Votes: 49 Registered: 20-Mar-2004 | I would add a few more fish just to make the tank a bit more interesting. One betta in a 10 gallon with nothing else is cool, but I prefer more heavily stocked tanks. If you do add anything else, just make sure you have a lot of plants and caves in there for the fishies to hide if anybody has a temper tantrum. And of course, keep a divider or spare tank handy for him just in case anything goes bad. Fish I would suggest (pick one of them, I am NOT suggesting they all be added to the tank ): kuhli loaches (3) small corydoras like pygmies, pandas, habrosus, etc. (4-6) neon/cardinal/silvertip/emperor/H. flammeus/lemon/ember tetras (5-6) -note: if you get tetras, watch carefully for fin nippers! dwarf pencilfish (about 5) WCMMs (4-6) Eyespot/harlequin/dwarf aka. spotted/exclamation point rasboras (5-6) Cherry barbs (pair) Otocinclus (3) --only if your tank is well established, planted, with a lot of algae for them to munch on and places for them to hide EDIT: someone mentioned BN plecs...IMO they get way too big and messy for a 10 gallon tank, a 6" fish really has no business being in a tank that size. I wouldn't keep any species of plec in a 10, except maybe a clown plec temporarily or pitbull plec. There are probably others that I'm forgetting too Last edited by Miss Moppet at 15-Mar-2005 18:01 |

Cichlid Keeper Big Fish Posts: 368 Kudos: 466 Votes: 304 Registered: 17-Aug-2003 | I presently have a black male crown tail in a 10 gallon tank by himself. So I was wondering should I leave him in the tank by himself( Which I really have no problem with doing)or should I add a couple more fish and if so what? |

ifancyfish Fingerling Posts: 28 Kudos: 24 Votes: 16 Registered: 19-Feb-2005 | I have my betta alone in a 10 gallon, and he couldn't be happier. I haven't had good experiences with keeping other fish with bettas. They either want to chew on the betta's tail or the betta decides he doesn't want anybody else in the aquarium with him and he terrorizes everything in the tank. I somehow always manage to pick bettas with the worst attitudes. *plans on getting another betta soon* |

gartenzwerfe Big Fish Mrs. Racso To Be Posts: 375 Kudos: 628 Votes: 199 Registered: 20-Mar-2004 | Voted for: Add a couple more fish There are quite a few fish that can go in a 10g with the betta, as long as he isn't a meany-butt. Corys would be neat, a bristle nose pleco, cherry barbs (I have some with a female CT and she doesn't have a single nip taken out of her), WCMMs, snails, shrimp (as said, they may get eaten, though), small tetras like neons or cards (do a little research to make sure the species isn't nippy), pencilfish... the list goes on. Your tank, your choice HTH ><>Dani<>< I don't want just anyone to hold I don't want my love to go to waste I want you and your beautiful soul |

Racso Mega Fish Some Assembly Required Posts: 1163 Kudos: 1442 Votes: 35 Registered: 19-Feb-2002 | I had no problem with a betta in a ten gallon. I had a male betta, some threadfin rainbows, a dwarf gourami (I was VERY cautious about adding him), and some yoyo loaches. Everyone in the tank was perfectly fine. If you do add something like a dwarf gourami, just watch you betta to make sure that he doesn't give the gourami a hard time. ~Jorge Last edited by Racso at 18-Mar-2005 00:22 |
