fishygirl68 Hobbyist Posts: 97 Votes: 0 Registered: 07-Jul-2004 | My lfs has some tiny (maybe 1" gouramis, called "Sparkling Gouramis" Has anyone ever heard of these before? How big do they really get? |

I think I was told that they max out in size between 1.5-2 inches. You can tell the gender of the fish by their dorsal fin, as with other gouramis and they are bubble nesters. I have also heard them be call croaking gouramis. |

Here's the link:http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?siteid=21&pCatId=1562 Sounds like a neat fish, and they stay very small. |

They have some great blue and red coloring but it varies by the tank and outside lighting, it's not consistent and bright like with neons. They are quite shy too...I had them for a few months before they started venturing out of the floating plants. Because of their shyness I'd be careful about potential tankmates, although my 30g has an angel, krib pair, bottom feeders, and black phantom tetras. This link has sparkling gourami info written by people who have kept them. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is water at the bottom of the ocean |

I think I should have gotten some of these instead of dwarf gouramis. I just did not dare to risk it. Are they aggressive amongst themselves? Doesn't seem like it. Maybe I'll try my luck when I next get another batch of fishies. |

I've read sexing them is difficult, when I had two I didn't even try and they got along fine. I've read on some sites though that males can be territorial. Here is some other info about them. Good luck...I had to order mine online, still haven't found them in a lfs here. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is water at the bottom of the ocean |

fishygirl68 Hobbyist Posts: 97 Votes: 0 Registered: 07-Jul-2004 | thanks for the links!! I think I may add a few of these to my tank...not sure if I should put them in with angels though, they would probably eat them...or would they? |

This isn't exactly the nicest angel either, he has a nasty habit of chewing guppy tails Anyhow, they're like other gouramis and appreciate floating plants. Spacious enough tank, the plants, and not terribly agressive angels and you should be ok. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is water at the bottom of the ocean |
