At night when I turn the tank light on my male betta flares alot as he sees his reflection. Is this harmful/stressful or healthy for the betta.

A little bit of flaring is normal and healthy for bettas. It only becomes stressful when they are doing it constantly.

They shade the glow of it with their mossy-misty costumes,
They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver,
So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces.
