I'm only running a whisper mini and it's letting me get away with doing water changes about every 2 weeks (about 33% water changes). Although your boys might not like the current it creates, so maybe a sponge is the way to go. The girls I have in my 5 don't seem to be affected by the current but I now it's different for male Bettas. BTW when are they coming home?....we want pics!!!!!!!

UGF will work, or twin sponge filters.

Okay, divide the 5 it is! Now I have the job of finding a canopy and light for it though...hmmm.

Nick- I was actually thinking to cut down a 10 gallon divider. That's what my boss suggested too.

I'll def. get a heater, 25 watts should do the trick.
NEW QUESTION: What filter?? It's kinda hard to keep a 5 gallon cycled...hmmm.

Can't wait to bring the boys home.

divide the 5.

use the glass out of a picture frame or some plastic canvas or some acrylic (this will expand and contract more than glass when the temp changes)

you will need runners down the side for the divider to slot into.

they sell some (i'm using these on plastic canvas, i cut notches so the plastic canvas is flush with the glass, not held out by the runners) or you can use those binder backs, or slit plastic tubing or even plain suction cups.

This is the tank before I divided it. I'm running a mini-whisper filter and heater which gives me a little more time between water changes.

I divided a 5 gal. for a couple of my female Bettas using a 10 gal. divider I cut down to size. It has worked out very well, good luck with your new boys and be sure to post some pics....I wanna see.

Well, since you seem to have three hospital tanks, I'd divide up the five gallon one for the bettas. They will have plenty of room at 2.5 gallons apiece, and you can run a filter (if you want) and a heater on the tank. Add some gravel, a few plants, and BOOM! A brand-new tank, with some beautiful betta boys.

You know, you could set up a theme for each half of the tank, and maybe name the fish to fit each theme... Just a suggestion.
