Since I can't seem to find my hard copy --- and wasn't able to use the Search key on this site to find the information.... Could any of you provide a listing of common Bettas abbreviations with a brief description of the distinguishing features of each category? I'd greatly appreciate it....

i thought ST was single tail? hmm, i'll have to go a-hunting again.

Crowntail = CT
Double Ray Crowntail = DRCT
Double Double Ray Crowntail = DDRCT
SuperDelta = SD

were there specifics you wanted? would a few sites that list them do?

I thought the S in ST was single, too.

I've also seen regular V for variegated and VT for veil tail.

VT: veil tail
SD: super delta

Thanks so much for the definitions.... but I really need help with the distinguishing features as well.... Crowntails are easy of course -- especially since I have several -- both females and males... But what makes a half moon a half moon? Where does a Splendens fit in with all of these descriptions? etc...

ok, ALL of them are splendens, thats a species. Its like a dog id a dog is a dog, but some are great danes, and some are golden retrievers

A tail type is sort of on the same level as a dog breed

Here are a few of the better sites

This is Joep's site, he is one of the best breeders of HM in the Netherlands. He has recently redone his site
click ALL ABOUT BETTA SPLENDENS > TAILTYPES & GENETICS or INTRO TO HM FINNAGE THE best HM info IMO.
http://vanriel.myadsl.nl/

This is Victoria's site, I think her HM definition is a bit unclear, but the rest is very very good
http://www.bettysplendens.com/articles/catview.asp?catid=40

this is Michael and Angeliek's site, again, here's to the Dutch Click on the EXAMPLES OF FIN FORMS link

Thanks for the site info Callatya! Found very informative information! I especially loved the last site!!!!!! Actual pictures of the variance in fin types! In fact, I found the visual and text info so informative I made an attempt at printing it.... but failed... couldn't even select the text! So, I saved the web site address in my favorites -- in order to have the information readily available!
Thanks again! I truly appreciated it!
