My suggestion would be a 2 gallon kritter keeper. I get them for $15 Canadian. I keep them at room temp which is about 20 to 22C. My routine is 100% water change with declor and 1/2 aquarium salt per gallon once a week. You could use gravel or glass marbles with a silk plant and a small clay pot for a cave.

Edit *** can't spell lol

Just about any container that would hold at least a gallon would make a good betta bowl. Weekly water changes, marbels or decorative rocks on the bottom if you want them, and something for the betta to lounge on and hide in.

Have to say the same as above, anything that will hold a gallon or more of water works...if it holds less then the water parameters can swing to much way to fast...

I used the little critter keepers as an emergency tank till i could get my dividers ready for the guys...

But really look into maybe getting them some small type of tank...they make them in all sorts of shapes and sizes now and it is easier on them and you if there is some sort of filtration involved...

filtration is good but what is really important if you want your betta to look and feel his best is a heater. They are from Southeast Asia as you likely know- and it's pretty toasty there. I think you will be a lot happier with him in a properly heated tank than a chilly bowl.

welcome to fp akb

I would agree with you on that bit about a heater, but when it is a small tank it is hard to keep it heated or i've had that problem

my betta that was in with a heater in his 2.5 gallon really lved his heater, he was always trying to spawn with it, it was the spawning with the heater that was his demise though

Wow. I knew they liked a warm tank but that's appreciation I know what you mean- the smaller a space is the harder it is to keep a stable temp- for my smaller tanks, I have 50 w heaters with auto shut off- they work really well in my experience. The heaters made ofr small tanks make me so nervous. Oh, and thank you for the welcome, by the way.
