Just a couple of nitpicks.

First- I'd emphasize the heating more. While bettas will be just fine in unheated tanks/bowls, most other tropical fish will suffer from such an arrangement. A constant temperature is good, but a constant and warm temp is better for tropical fish. Bettas come from tropical Asian waters, and appreciate the warmth produced by heaters. The relatively cool water of an unheated tank can also stress some fish out, leading to infections.

Even if an unheated tank manages to keep a fairly warm and stable temp, it's always nice to have a heater as insurance.

The other point- I've never heard of a betta eating a neon tetra, though I have heard of neons nipping betta fins. I feel that when stocking a community tank to include a betta, you need to plan for fish that will not target the betta; not plan for fish that the betta won’t target. You sort of touched on this, but I feel it could have been reworded to strengthen your point.

Good article and good subject matter.

Good points... heat/heaters and the whole 'tankmate picking on betta' deal... I'll have to update for that.

Oh, and yes... bettas can eat small neons. Never seen it personally, but I've heard of a few cases, including my sister's boyfriend, who came back to see the betta shredding a neon.
