As I agree Betta CAN live in a small amount of water, IMO it's really not a good idea, especially if the dividers are transparent. I know there is a great debate on this subject, so just to clarify...this is my opinion. I personally wouldn't keep a Betta in anything less than a 2.5 gal. Even that size tank is subject to disagreement.

Comfortably, you could hold 3, but it depends on the tank layout and the temperament of the bettas in question.

Plus, i wean, it seems like DudeX2 wants a sort of tiny community setup, so maybe a divided tank is a bit too 'betta' for him right now.

Good suggestion though, i do like the idea of dividers with the right fish

Why not get a few dividers? Bettas can live in spaces of a few cups, so you can probably hold four to six bettas. Just with the dividers!

Hey Dude_Dude

Yes, i'd be getting a 25W heater for your tank, Aussie winters make for very sluggish and fruzzy bettas

If you can get glass cleaner shrimp, or atyidae shrimp, you could add a few of those (depending on if the bettas would eat them, all bettas are different like that)

I noticed that people answered your inquiry about danios in the tank with a betta, but not the ghost shrimp. In my experience ghost shrimp are eaten by the bettas. Live prey!

In regard to heaters... Frankly, as I live in a climate which has cold winters.... I would definitely suggest heaters! I myself noticed that the Betta Boys in 2.5 gal Minibow tanks were becoming less and less active --- Bought some Junior Heaters @ Wal Mart and VOILA! My boys' activity abounds!!!!

Not necessarily. It is in their nature to flare at other males. I would hesitate to purchase a male that wouldn't flare. I would be afraid it was ill. But I do think bringing a mirror with you is a good idea. It allows you to see the male in all his flaring glory.

Once again,Thanx
Would putting a mirror infront of those little cups at my lfs (lfs he,he,he):%) be a good way to find out if the betta is aggressive?

Well it's not a neccesity depending on where the tank will be (In a room where it is climate controlled and temp. never goes below 70 degrees F) but, I would suggest getting one for your 5 gallon. Any temp. less than 75 degrees F could make your Betta become lethargic and possibly stress him/her out and make them sick. A small 25 Watt heater is fairly inexpensive (about 8 U.S. dollars) and is worth it for the price. Good luck

I don't see why you couldn't put a sucker fish in there, just keep in mind it's size (nothing that's going to get too big) and the fact that the tank is slightly overstocked, so make sure your stay up on you water changes

i think it really depends on the personality of the betta. less aggressive bettas will work well with tropical community fish.
