Another (neat!) one that I came up with was to maybe have a breeding pair of bettas in a ten gallon tank. I don't want B. splendens though, I'd like something more distinctive. I don't think I want B. imbellis either, they look a little too similar. However, I'm open to pretty much any other species, be they mouthbrooders or bubblenesters. Any suggestions for small, easy-to-keep bettas? Of course, they'd have to be fairly easy to locate or order. I was thinking maybe B. smaragdina; anyone have any better ideas? I appreciate the help. |

They are also very easy to care for, the'll eat pretty much everything. And they are very friendly. At first they started off really shy, but now they come to the side of tank when ever they see me. They are also not very aggressive at all. They've also spawned twice since I've gotten them. I've also got smaragdina. They are cute to, but they are a lot like splendens. |

Now I'm sort of leaning towards some of the mouthbrooding species, like B. simplex, B. falx, B. pugnax, and so on. These guys apparently aren't horribly difficult to find, and aren't super pricey. I'd been looking at Aquabid, maybe they'll have more species up by the time I've got a tank ready. I'm going to hunt around in my area for fish clubs and breeders; maybe I can meet some folks who can point me in the direction of some locally-available bettas. Thanks again. |

Mahachai or B. falx. i have a tank full of female smaragdinas that just don't seem to find homes, so i'd go for something somewhat trendy or something with a bit more colour or appeal if you plan on breeding and rehoming them. |
