I need to know if i can put my goldfish in a tank that has a betta in it. I want to move him to make room for new fish I'm looking to get.

No
There are many reason why you shouldn't
1. the water quality they require is way too different.
2. the heating parameters are just, no, don't do it (bettas like warmer water, and goldies like colder water)
3. I'm assuming (I might be wrong here) that the betta is in a "little" tank? 1-2 gallons? that is a wonderful size for the betta, but a goldie here is the big no no, a goldie needs at least 20 gallons each They can reach large sizes if allowed to have the proper environment, and are not forced into stunting their size...

Get the goldie his own larger tank or return him better yet go dig yourself a pond he'll love you for it

No way. Don't mix Betta's & Goldfish in the same tank. Betta's like to stay on their own & Goldfish need a pond.

Most of the goldfish I've had would probably love a betta - as a snack.

Tankmates that I've had work well with bettas include apple snails, ghost shrimp, and amano shrimp.

As for the goldfish, what size tank is it in now? He'd really do best in a nice big tank with maybe a few other goldfish. If you don't have room or money for a 55 gallon or so, you might want to find another home for him or bring him back to the store.

i doubt that the betta is in anything larger than a 10 gallon, in which case a goldfish will not fit, they do have different water temps, as well as swimming agressivness, so the answer is no dont mix.

Chris, not to start an argument, but I have a betta in a 125. No, he's not alone but he was one of the first fish to go in the tank...You never can tell just what size of tank some of us will give our bettas, and I know kitten's 20 gallon is a betta tank heidi
