The metamorphosis still is not complete, I just took another photo of her earlier today, as you can see now all color in the dorsal fin is gone and also the ventral fin is nearly white, I think that she will probably end up completely white.

edit: I just noticed that even her eye color has changed, she now has lovely blue eyes

She came from a local petstore that also sells some fish on the side. I't not really a very good store, but they had one tank full of female bettas and I got two of them (the other is a more taditionl blue one). Although there were some other marbles in that tank, this one did not have any suggestion of being a marble herself. As I said before she came as a completely dark red and first developed some white lips. The white quickly spread to het entire head (within a week) and now a month or so later she is as you can see in the picture.

I usually don't like albino fish (I know this is not a truly albino fish), but this betta has some really nice red sheen over the white and I love the way her fins have turned out. Not bad for a $ 4,- fish

Bonke, was she a LFS find or did you get her from a breeder?

Shes a cutie! I breed marbles so i get a lot of colour changing bettas. Which actually gets pretty annoying because they get a pattern that I love then a few days later they've totaly switched!

BTW that angel is so pretty!!

Hmm... all bettas I've ever had have eaten snails when I got them. If your's don't you could try squashing some snails in front of it and feeding them. Maybe she'll get the taste of it and will start hunting for them herself.

Oh and the black fish is just a black angelfish who thinks that he/she owns the entire tank.

That is some nice coloring. What's that black fish swimming next to her? And how do you get your bettas to eat snails?

A little update on the betta, I think the colorchanging must be almost complete... she can't shift much more than she already has. Take a look at the photo a couple of posts back, then look at this one:

and finally at what she looks like now:

quite amazing that this happens in a full grown betta

Oh yes, they most certainly do, at least the females do. I haven't had a male betta in 20 years, so I can't say for sure about them, but female bettas love snails. As I mentioned I now have them about 1 months, and the snail population has dropped with about 60-80%. The bottom of the tank, which is black as you can see in the photo, is lying full of white snail shells.

Hey people, I have a little mystery on my hands. About 1 months ago I got two betta females to get rid of my snail problem. One of them is a nice deep blue and the other was deep red. The mystery lies with the red one, after about a week in the tank she had developed a while nose, but because the rest of her body was a deep dark red I didn't thought anything special of it. However, since then the white area has slowly been spreading, and now her entire head is white and some spots on her back are also tuning white. It doesn't look like any disease, just a pigment change, otherwise she seems perfectly healthy, acts normal, eats normal, swims normal, doesn't seem to be stressed in any way. Has anyone else ever encountered something like this?

Sorry, but I am holding on to her, one day when I have a second stank up and running I probably will try to breed with her. I'm kind of curious what kind of offspring she'll produce. It still amazes me that she changed so much in 1 months, when I got her, her body was entirely one color, pretty much as dark as the dark areas she still has left.

Meep! Can I steal her? She's adorable... would go nicely with my marble male, if I were, like... breeding them.
