Betta of the month! | |
littlemousling Conchiform Posts: 5230 Registered: 23-Aug-2003 | I think the "everyone can enter one betta per month" rule would level the playing field quite well. Besides, the people who've paid a lot for their fish are going to be in different categories than people with pet store fish, although there might be some crossover in the Crowntail category. Maybe we should assume that everyone can be treated equally, and then change it up *if* there are problems? I don't think we should assume that one person's going to run away with the prizes every time, lots of people have gorgeous bettas. Also, I do think we should add an "oddball" category, I know a lot of people with very, very weird-looking bettas, in terms of color, finnage, or other things. Just if there's support, of course. -Molly Visit shelldwellers.com! |

I don't need people sucking up]:|. Also I don't want anyone who enters this contest to tell anyone that it is their betta. I don't want a judge to know who's it is. I can give u the test that I am giving to judges if u email me shannen. |

What is the difference if they will? How would you know? Are you going to do a background check on each betta that is submitted? Is there going to be an "application process" to find out if the person is a commercial breeder? That shouts bias-ness already. I would hate to make this a terribly complicated process because your idea sounds really fun and an awesome thing to get the members/visitors to participate in this site. The rule of one submission per month per person is fair regardless if they came from a commercial breeder or the LFS. Lets not make this a convoluted event. Let's have fun! |

It is your contest and your rules. I can respect that, but to make it fare you need to limit ALL to only one entry in every category, and it should not matter what/where the betta came from as long as the person actually owns the fish. I see your point in trying to keep it fair, but if a member spent ALOT of $$ to owner a nice fish verses a person who breeds them for fun, it really should not matter what fish is presented for this contest. I mean I paid good $$ for IBC standard show quality fish. Pretty much I have enough to enter one in every category that you have, but since they are all "commercial" grade fish I can only enter one per month. That is just not right. If you are going to hold a "real" contest, then lets make it real regardless of where the fish came from or what it is used for. |

Daniel Banned Posts: 600 Kudos: 524 Votes: 12 Registered: 25-Jul-2002 | My concern, and the concern of many others is that we don't want the same people with the same super fish winning every month. We understand that you paid a lot of money for the fish you have. I just don't want the contest to be ruled by imports and fish that are meant for the production of the absolute best bettas that money can buy. I'm not trying to exclude anyone from this contest, but I am trying to level the playing field. Please understand that I don't want anyone to be excluded at all. I will do some serious thinking on how to fix this little hitch. |

Daniel Banned Posts: 600 Kudos: 524 Votes: 12 Registered: 25-Jul-2002 | Okay 2 bettas per month for everyone. If you win the contest in your category, you will have the option to judge next month on that category. I will allow only 1 male and 1 female. If it does become a problem that commercial or show fish that haven't been bred by the person showing them, then I will amend these rules. I want everyone to be happy, but I am not going to conform to having a few people win each month. |

Dr. Bonke Moderator Posts: 367 Kudos: 215 Votes: 36 Registered: 15-Apr-2004 | Hey Daniel, sounds like a nice little contest, I might join in, depending on your answers on the following questions. Can a betta who's photo has been posted on the forums join in? I ask that because it might compromise the anonimity that you value for the judging. A second question, I'm new in the betta business, and actually own only two females, anyway, I don't really have a clue what "model" betta they are, if I send a photo of one of them (if I enlist), can you decide which category they should be in? Thanks! Martin |

Like most fishkeepers I'd love to have the chance to "show off my beauties".... But alas, I'm just not a real high tech gal - and so far, haven't really liked the pics I've taken with my digital camera... But still ---- Can't wait to see pictures from the rest of you!!! GOOD LUCK TO ONE AND ALL!!!!!! Last edited by dreamweaver8891 at 25-Sep-2004 01:34 To thine own self be true... |

Daniel Banned Posts: 600 Kudos: 524 Votes: 12 Registered: 25-Jul-2002 | That was why I placed them all in the same catagorie. They dont have to completely pass all of the IBC standards to be submitted, but points will be given to those who exemplify the standards of their catagory. The only different thing about the HM catagorie is that it will have 3 different judging forms. 1 for HM, 1 for SD, and 1 for Delta. The owner will submit that their betta is in one of these three sub-catagories. Then we will use the form that applies to what they said the fish was (even if they were wrong.) Also OHMs will be judged in the HM subcatagorie, but not be penalized if their finnage is over 180 degrees. |
