I've had my betta for about a month now. Today I added a group of small rasboras to his tank. He's been flaring at them a bit and seems to be keeping them in a corner. The tank has a good-sized piece of driftwood and is rather well planted.

Think he'll settle down once the newness wears off?

Most likely I'd give him about 3-4 days to pretty much lose interest entirely.

Rasboras are just so interesing all bright and shiny and energetic and having them march in on his territory, well, he's almost obliged to put up a bit of a struggle for appearances sake

For animals, the entire universe has been neatly divided into things to (a) mate with, (b) eat, (c) run away from, and (d) rocks. - Terry Pratchett

I had some rasboras in my tank and I added a betta that my brother had to buy for Boy Scouts. Anyway, at first he did chase them around since it was so much more exciting then sitting in a cup all day. He doesnt do it anymore, but occasionally will when it is feeding time. Otherwise, he completly ignores them.

He's not really chasing them, it's more like keeping them in their place I did notice a bit of tail missing from one but I don't know if it arrived that way or if he's guilty. I think they're nervous too...he's not a big betta but they're only ~1/2" or so.

I've never had a bad experience with bettas and rasboras. They should be fine after a couple of days, especially if the tank has enough room for them to hide if they start to feel uncomfortable around Mr.Betta ^_^

My betta Vladmir killed a school of 12 neon tetras. I guess he likes being alone!

Things settled down, yesterday I took out the floating plants I had added as temporary hiding places. I'm really glad it worked out, I like the rasboras a lot.
