Smaragdina has a much more elongated body than splendens, I believe. Take a look at http://www.ibc-smp.org/species... that site has a lot of good pictures of betta species. I don't know how much of eac or how far back the cross was, but the stocky body is splenens, and the markings and irridescence look very imbellis. It looks like what is sold as a wild coloured splendens |

Older splendens do tend to look more elongated in general, and if he's an imbellis X he is probably even more. I agree with calla though, very splendens for the body shape. He's a nice looking betta, I have seen similar bettas sold occasionally around here as "wild type" fighter plakats. |
