I'm pretty sure what you've got there is more just a wild coloring rather than another species. Smaragdina has a much more elongated body than splendens, I believe. Take a look at http://www.ibc-smp.org/species... that site has a lot of good pictures of betta species. However, unless I'm mistaken, you've just got wild coloring rather than a wild type. *shrugs*

Edit: goes to change link color so you can actually SEE it. *rolls eyes*

that looks like an imbellis x splendens. I don't know how much of eac or how far back the cross was, but the stocky body is splenens, and the markings and irridescence look very imbellis.

It looks like what is sold as a wild coloured splendens

I need to get her out and take some better pictures of her. She's kinda grown since that pic I've noticed, looking at her, she is more elongated in the front that other bettas I've had / have.

Yeah, boy....look at those ventrals!

Older splendens do tend to look more elongated in general, and if he's an imbellis X he is probably even more. I agree with calla though, very splendens for the body shape. He's a nice looking betta, I have seen similar bettas sold occasionally around here as "wild type" fighter plakats.
