My brother bought some small 1 gallon tanks from a fish shop recently and was told he could keep a siamese fighter in there, is this true or is it just to small??

Nope, that's just fine. Just make sure he does 100% water changes at least weekly, and more often is fine! And, of course, one to a container. Careful - they're addictive!

Nope, sorry. I've bred in a 2.5 but for the unexperienced, anything smaller (or larger, frankly) than a ten gallon is a bad idea for spawning. You can always go down that road later, anyways.

There are a billion betta sites, many of them pretty accurate, but these two are my faves.

No secret, really. I knew the pair. They were the two most docile bettas I've ever owned, at least with each other, and I knew they wouldn't have problems. Don't get me wrong, I stuffed the tank with plants and watched it like a hawk, but they were just as friendly in the 2.5 as they had been in the 10s. Indeed, they were so much happier during their breeding career than during "retirement" that I let them shack up towards the end of their lives, and never saw so much as a torn fin. Can't explain it, but it was lovely to see. Miss them ...
Anyway, other breeders do it as well, it's mostly a matter of knowing the fish and paying attention. Also, I moved the fry at a week and a half, since it was obviously too small to raise them.

"lizloveskj41301", you should post in the hospital forum and give details such as bowl/tank size and frequency of water changes. If he's in a tank it would be good to know ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels.
With this info people will have an easier time helping you out.
