Hi, my Bettas are breeding at the moment, its the first time for both of them so they are a having to learn fast. The male finally got his bubble nest technique down and they should hopefully mate later tonight.

Interestingly the female Betta, who is kept in my community tank became gravid at the same time as my female Blue ram, without ever seeing the the male Betta.

So i have Blue rams laying eggs as i type and my bettas breeding as well.

The bettas are in a 20g, temp is around 25c with a neutral ph of 6.8-7.0, the tank is planted so i hope it all goes ok.
Ill put some pics up tomorrow.

temp is a bit low, if you find you are having problems, re-jar the female and increase the temp to 27-28*C and try again

good luck

I put the temp up to 28/29 and the female got the barring so I released her again, but it didn't appear that he was ready for her, but she had plenty of space to hide so I went out for a few hours, came home all ready to remove her and she was pretty beaten up, only to find them in the middle of the act

Got some pictures I thought I'd share

Building the nest...

And, the nest full of lovely white eggs:

For the first couple of days it looked as though he was having trouble building the nest, but considering this was his forst go I think he did well. Also, my lovely little female helped him pick up all the dropped eggs which I thought was sweet

This is the first time I've bred Bettas, and the first time I have ever seen the way they do it. I managed to get this one of him squeezing her

Well they all hatched out thismorning...There is more than I expected, probably over 100. I'm suprised how successful they were. I thought he might have been too old but I guess I was wrong

Here's one of the fry, you can just see their tails.

What is the depth of the water where the fry are to be found? Some might drop out from the nest and the male tries to pick them up and place them back inside the nest. Is there any gravel in the tank because this would make it impossible for the male to find the fry. On the other hand, good shots and good luck with the fry. Mine now are 4 weeks old and there are 40+. I had a spawn of about 100, many had died as a result of natural selection during the first two weeks. It seems that the population has remained constant. But considering the fact that by the third month having to jar 50% males would have been an impossible task for me.
