Bettas with Plecos? | |
Aqua Newbie n MS Hobbyist Posts: 102 Votes: 1 Registered: 01-Jan-2006 | I currently have a 10 gallon glass tank with 2 swordtails and 1 rubber-lipped pleco. The swordtails are destined for a new 40G (already purchased, waiting on some parts to arrive to get it up and running) but I wanted to leave the pleco behind in the old 10G. In addition, I have a 2G acrylic hex tank with 1 male Betta in it. If I transfer the Betta from the 2G hex to the 10G, how would you expect the Betta to interact with the pleco? The pleco only moves every few hours and can usually be found either on the floor or low on a side or back wall. |

The don't bother each other and the go about their own buisiness. you might find the betta acting agressive at first but I don't this that it will last, he'll be looking for other male bettas ..he'll see his reflection in the glass and spead his gills and try to fight his own relection but eventually ..usualy within the day he'll calm down. Now bear in mind this is from my own limited experience and may not be indicative of all bettas, |

A pleco will spend most of its time either on the glass or on the bottom. It won't be swimming around the tank in the Betta's area. I have had ottos with bettas and while they are different of course, the betta never paid any attention to them because they were always on the glass. And my Betta is a grumpy old man who chases other fish (besides the ottos). |
