Black Lace males (not as rich and deep a black) are more common than Melano males (very deep black, v. pretty), partially because crossing a Melano male with most females (marble, other colors) leads to Black Lace at best, unknowns and mixtures at worst. The only way to produce melanos is to cross the melano male with a steel blue spawn sister who's carrying melano (there aren't any fertile melano females, at least there aren't any yet). Erm, that was probably more than you needed to know! Try Aquabid.com, or breeder's sites. In fact, you can look on Aquabid for fish you like and then go to the site of the breeder who's selling them, often. -Molly Visit shelldwellers.com! |

EDIT: I did just see a black one at my LCS yesterday, it was one of four bettas in the store. [span class="edited"][Edited by sirbooks 2004-09-02 07:00][/span] |
