Hatching could be done in a 5g, but I think a 10g would be better for the fry. Easier to maintain water quality on a 10. Also Betta Talk has a lot of information on breeding bettas. from what i rememer, you just got your first betta, or something. i wouldn't rush into breeding. but for the first timer it may be hard. i wrote this :http://fishprofiles.com/files/forums/Advanced%20Betta%20Care/56836.html

also hachting depends on the temp of the water. i think i had it around 90*F in one spawn and they hacted in 1 day. the average is 80-85*F and 2-3 days.

ah, depends on the perents (weither or not they eat the eggs) i have 4 from 1 spawn, and 2 eggs from a spawn a few days ago (not sure if they r alive or not)and im getting set for my next spawn the most i had was from my very first spawn, i had, maybe 200 fry or so, but slowly they strted to die off, i lost the lats 2 within days of eachother, still not sure what went wrong, but im trying again atleast
