Can you sex 5 week baby bettas? | |
Jaylene_Grasshopper Hobbyist Posts: 50 Kudos: 61 Votes: 7 Registered: 09-Sep-2004 | Heeeeey! Thanx for taking the time to read this first! Now to start. I have five week old baby bettas, and I was wondering how to sex them if possible. My grandfather who bred bettas before said that baby females have horizontal stripes (which represents stress) and males don't. I just wanted to know if it is true. It sounds right considering some have stripes and some don't. So can you please write back and tell me. If you wish to tell me via e-mail, send it to Nooperjr@hotmail.com. Ciao! |

Although now you've made me curious... I do wonder how you sex Betta fry... MANY years I ago, I successfully bred a Betta pair --- but for the life of me, can't remember how I knew what was what when they reached that age... All I truly remember was the actual mating and how interesting the male was in tending the eggs... Then of course, I remember the quantity of jars I needed for separating the fry!! In the little house I live in now, I wouldn't have the room!!! The only suggestion I have for you is to try and post in the Advanced Betta forum on this site whenever you have a Betta question... There you'll find members who have a decided interest and so, definite knowledge of this particular fish.... You might even want to ask that you have this post moved to that forum --- because you might end up with all kinds of help/advice/etc. Good luck with your fry! To thine own self be true... |

You need to be able to watch the aggression and separate the meaner ones from the group. These will mostly be the males, but some will be mean females. U will be able to sight the male developing the elongated fins and notice the ovum on the females around 8 weeks. |
