Right now my 10g is setup with 3 platies, 3 kuhli loaches and 1 oto. I'm going to put the platies in my 38 gallon so they have more room. So my plan is to add another oto, 2-3 kuhlis and a betta to the 10g. I didn't see any problem with this setup but I thought I'd post it anyways to see if anyone sees something I'm missing. My real concern is my filter, which is a whisper filter that came in a 10 gallon boxed setup. Do I need to slow down the filter somehow and what would be the best way to do that?

what sort of decor do you have?

If you have enough to break the current, you should be fine, but maybe consider a short-finned type to be on the safe side

For animals, the entire universe has been neatly divided into things to (a) mate with, (b) eat, (c) run away from, and (d) rocks. - Terry Pratchett

I've got a small piece of driftwood with some java fern on it. A little cave ornament and 4-5 fake plants. I want to get a crowntail betta, that and a veil tail are the only ones I've seen around here.

What filter do you have on the tank? I've found that bettas get used to the current after a while. I have a Whisper 20 on the far right side of my ten gallon (rated for a 20 gallon tank) and when I had a betta in a community setup in there, he was fine. Even with a rather large tail (delta) he had no problems getting around or finding a good place with less current.

Since the flow of the Whisper 20 is adjustable, I was able to start him out in the tank with a lower flow and gradually increase it when he didn't show any signs of difficulty.
