I want to setup this 10 gallon tank I have for female bettas. These are my questions:

1) How many can I have? (I kinda want 5 - 7)
2) How would I introduce them to the tank? Like one at a time, all at the same time, etc.?
3) Would they require a filter?
4) Would female bettas jump out of a tank?
5) How would I go about feeding?

Thanks, I'll post any more questions if I can think of them.

1- 5 sounds good, you could prolly do 6 or 7...
2- Well if you get them from a petstore that has them all in one tank(which they usually do) then you can just put them all right in. They still may chase and nip for a while but they will usualy settle down in a few days, once they figure out who is boss
3- They don't NEED a filter, but filters are good to have. If I were you I would have a filter
4- They would if they wanted to Bettas are good jumpers so keep it covered
5- Just sprinkel the food around the tank, that way they'll be spread out when feeding

4-5 max and if you are gonna have that many then YES a filter is REQUIRED. I have 3 bettas in my 55 and for the first couple of weeks they were BIOTCHES to each other, but after that they were fine. But with that many i would be careful cause some fms can be mean and even meaner than the males, so just be careful.
RECAP:
4-5 betas max
Filter Required

Good Luck and good choice, bettas are awsome.

I agree with fish legend... definitely use a filter and four betta girls is probably a good number for that size tank. I have six in my twenty gallon long and I can't imagine that number in anything smaller.

Females CAN be mean. I had one who left ripped fins, ruffled tempers, and two cases of pop eye behind her (those two girls threw themselves against the gravel to get away from her). She's now in solitary confinement.

It really depends on the personalites of your bettas. Five of mine came from one community tank. One came from a cup at Walmart. The seventh one who attacked everyone was from a community tank at the same store I got my original five. You're better off with community bought girls, but that doesn't guarantee anything. Just fair warning.

Have to have a filter..really. Or it you want a healthy tank you do..

I'd say 4-5 MAX for a ten..
but my girls usually end up aruond 3" in my big tank..so my opinion is based on that.
And they can be nice..or they can be psycho..temperments vary greatly.

I would def. say four or five max, as kitten and legend said. Curiosity killed the cat, and can kill your bettas too. Make sure you have a lid, you can never be too careful. I would def. suggest a filter, I think an aquaclear makes a good filter for a tank with that size and bio load. And like kitten said you are better off getting them all from one tank, your chances of them getting along are much better that way. G/L

I have three gals in a 5 gallon, and I wish I had gone with a 10 instead. They all have their own territory, and they really only get into squirmishes when they cross those boundries.

I'd suggest adding plants and/or decorations, so if they get spooked they can hide. (My two smallest ones hide in a cave at night so they aren't bothered.)

Oh, and they way I found to stop some of the agression at feeding time is to always feed at least two different types of food (ie. a mixture of pellets, granules, and flakes). This way there's a variety, and one won't be upset that everyone else is eating her "favourite food".

I'd say you could go with six but only if you get some females with good personalities. Well planted-fake or real-is a must as well as caves or other hiding places.

I wouldn't go unfiltered with a 10g.

Feeding isn't a problem. I now have three females, two are in community tanks and they eat the same diet as my other fish.

Yes female bettas will jump.

Be careful and be prepared...things can go very bad very quickly. What looks like harmless chasing & nipping can become quite serious. I wanted a 10g female betta tank for a long time but it didn't work out for me; this]http://www.fishprofiles.com/interactive/forums/thread.asp?id=42128&page=1[/link] is what ended up happening. [link=Here is another article you might want to read.

They're great fish and a lot of people do have success keeping them together, hopefully you'll have good luck as well.

Okee dokee, I'll try to keep it around 4-5. Don't worry, I'm gonna use a lot of fake silk plants and a bunch of pots and caves. I think it's really cool to see a fish come out of a cave and just look at you for a while. ^_^

1) If I used a filter for a 30 gallon on a 10, would that be overkill for the bettas?

2) Where can I find hornthort(sp??). Seems that no place around San Jose carries it. I would love some for my male bettas.

Thanks for the information ^_^
