How can you tell the difference between Delta Tails, Plakats and Halfmoons. I'm not even sure if it's male or female of the Plakats.

Please be very discriptive, I'm an idiot.

You probably would get a better response in Advanced Betta Care. A Half Moon is a betta who's caudual fin makes a complete 180 degree semi circle, with straight edges. A Delta is a betta who's tail makes a 125-160 degree semi circle. Neither of these can apply to veil tail bettas. Plakats are short-finned bettas.

This is a Halfmoon. Notice how the tail is 180 degrees. It looks like a "D."

So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces.

This is a Delta tail. The tail looks like the greek Delta letter, which I suppose looks like ] or <.

This is a plakat. They have short fins, like a female, I suppose. It is hard to sex plakats, since you can't go by fin size.

P.S. I'm sorry for the 3 posts, but I don't have anywhere to host the pics so that I could do them all in 1 post. ].<

P.S.S Oh, and those pictures aren't mine. They are just what came up on google that I thought were good examples.

Sexing plakats is fairly easy, the easiest way is to look for the ovipositor (the little white spot between the ventrals, only females have this). There are other ways to but u gotta have the eye for it

Actually, males have been known to have ovipositers too. Theirs aren't as big, but some males definitly have them.

o.k a delta tail has straight edges. double tails= two tails AND!! the dorsal starts closer to the head.
Halfmoon= 180 spread. anything less is a super delta or a delta.
plakats=short fins. plakats can come in HM,CT,DT and about everything.
veils= longest tails often curving.
males & females within plakat the head is in my opinion the best spot to look is the head. the males looking head on has xtra gills that hangs down. also the males heads are bolder than females when theirs are alittle more curved smooted. hope it helps

Veil tails aren't longer than other kinds of tails, per say, they just aren't held like HMs or others. They don't have as many branchings in the tail rays. Yes, one of the better ways to sex bettas is to look at the male's gills. When not flaring, the sort of have a "beard."

Here's a DT female. Notice how the dorsal is extended.
