I have had my betta for about a week now, at he is very active and healthy. I do two feedings of two pellets twice a day, however he never eats all to the two pellets. Is this normal, he puts it in his mouth then spits it out occassionly eating small bits. How long afte the food is sitting in the tank should I remove it. Would he maybe eat it later.

What exact type of food are you feeding and how big is he?
I've always fed mine more than that.. and they've readily eaten it. Also, bettas will try to eat things that are too big..it sounds like your food pellets might be a bit big for him to get down? In which case..after they soften up a bit he might get it down better.

Try feeding him the smallest pellets that you can find & feed him as much as he eats. Don't leave food in the tank for a long time, just feed him what he eats in 2/3 minutes.

Sounds more like he just isnt use to the food yet, its only been several days, so he isnt bored of the food yet..Putting it in his mouth and spitting it out is just him getting the taste of the food, or perhaps softening it up to make it easier to swallow....Any new fish needs some time to adapt to its new surroundings.....Try some Frozen bloodworms or Shrimp and I bet he will start eating that right up.....he will soon start to eat the pellets as well...I would scoop the older pellets out each day if they are still there.....what brand do you have? try another type along with the frozen foods.....Try Hikari brand Betta Food

Betta's are notoriously finicky eaters. If its not the same food he has been used to, it will take a few days to adjust. If he still will not eat, then try another brand. Don't just feed him pellets, give him some blood worms. Mine love the dry variety. Try some flakes too.
