My Betta doesn't seem to take to freeze-dried bloodworms- he nibbles, and then spits out, tries a couple times, then swims away. I was led to believe they are the ultimate betta dessert- is my Betta on a diet, or am I just feeding them to him wrong? I put the little wormy things whole on the water.

Also, is there anything wrong/dangerous with feeding him bugs from outside? Ants, that sort of thing? Anything in particular which is good or bad?

I would leave him for 1/2 days without food & then feed him the same food you're feeding him today. Be sure that he will eat it without hesitation.

Are you sure that the outside bugs are clean & without pesticide?.

Well... depends how you define 'clean'. They'd probably be from my garden, so no pesticides, but I don't know if any bug can be described as 'clean'.

I only use freeze dried blood worms as a treat as they can cause constipation in bettas. I like a pellet food, hikari makes a good one...Bio Gold. Try your betta on other foods...pellets, flakes etc. But only introduce one food at a time. Remeber he can go 4 or 5 days without eating. (stubborn little things)

Some bettas get bord with certain foods, especially if they eat them every day. Try spicing it up with something different
