Female Betta Community Tank | |
daviine Enthusiast Posts: 168 Kudos: 31 Registered: 28-Aug-2001 | I would like to buy female bettas for my 20H. However, I would like them all to be different colors to make the tank more lively looking. It seems that the females should be used to living together. The only place I know of where I could get beautiful females raised together is on bettatalk.com but I simply cannot afford to pay her prices. Does anyone know of a more affordable way to do this? I live in NYC so if you know of any LFS that have quality female bettas, I'd be so happy to check it out! I've gone through a series of different betta girls and of them, only the original five came from a community tank. All the others were bought individually. The only betta girl that does NOT get along with the others... is not a female after all. S/he was bought as a female, but he's actually a short/round tail male. Every single other girl I have works well, and I have two community betta tanks. One currently has three, the other seven. When making a community, you want a minimum of three IMO. This allows the aggression to spread out. Keep in mind you WILL see some aggression at first, because they have to establish a pecking order. Unless you have girls that absolutely do not care about the group status (possible, but not probable that ALL them will), you're going to see some nipping. This will happen every time you add a new girl, as she needs to find her place in the hierarchy. ~Meow. Thus spoke the cat.~ |
