Female Betta: Bubblenest? | |

Are you sure it's a female and not a short-tailed male? Honestly, I've been through that situation where a betta was sold as a female but wound up being very definitely male. To differentiate, take a look at the shape of the body from the side. Females tend to be curvier, and have more ounced bellies. If you look between the two pelvic fins (under the belly) see if you can find a small white spot/bump. It's easier to see in darker girls, obviously, but should be discernible in the lighter ones too. ~Meow. Thus spoke the cat.~ |

Posts: 9662 Kudos: 5261 Registered: 16-Sep-2001 | It isn't unheard of for a female to build a nest, and sometimes even release her eggs and put them in, but it is more likely that it is a misidentified male like Kitten said. Is it just a few bubbles or a full size nest? |

Sexing bettas is back to being tricky again ! |
