Female Betta and Opaline Gouramis question.... | |
Mindless Fingerling Posts: 20 Kudos: 10 Votes: 0 Registered: 21-Jul-2003 | I have 1 opaline gouramis in a 10 gal planted tank. I was wondering if I could put my 5 community betta girls in with it? Thanks! |

The mixture shouldn't be a problem, what IS a problem is the size of the tank ! 5 female bettas in a 10g is not a problem, but 1 Opaline Gourami in there, even by itself is, IMO. All the Blue Gourami's get to a relatively large size 4"+, really think it's too small. While females and gouramies can work as a mixture, in a tank that size there will be problems, the Gourami will take the whole tank as it's territory. Remember that age and treachery will always triumph over youth and ability. |

I'm used to having dwarf gouramis and when I asked the guy at my LFS if the opaline would be alright by itself in a 10, he said sure. Go figure. Usually they aren't wrong, but this time he was. Ah well. Thanks for the help. I'll deep six that idea and just set the girls up in thier own tank. Thanks again! |
