kitten Fish Guru Meow? Posts: 2266 Kudos: 2194 Votes: 19 Registered: 18-Nov-2003 | *tries to imagine seven gallon tank that can hold 16+ inches of fish* Yeah, I'll post pics sometime. My girls are easily pushing two inches if not more and they're just your average pet store betta girl. Ah well, in any case, it's ultimately up to you. Just fair warning that in that size tank, you very well might have some nipped fins. I have had up to nine in a twenty gallon long, and although they're all sweet girls, there is usually at least one girl who has been nipped by another. *shrugs* Even with my current four girls in that tank, they find something to tussle about every so often. ~Meow. The other 2 are for tanks 5 gallons and up. Christina Last edited by dvmchrissy at 13-Nov-2005 19:33 |

Petsmart is a good source. I've seen a couple at Petco, but not as big of a selection, though they ARE getting a wider variety in. ~Meow. Thus spoke the cat.~ |

A mix of bettas and cherries!! What I want to know is.....where you are going to get this heater for this tank? I have a 5 gallon and I out the smalklest heater I could find in it which was for one to 2 gallons and it may have got my water up to 90 degrees! See my post in general freshwater if you are interested. But let me know what kind of heater you are buying and where please! |

kitten Fish Guru Meow? Posts: 2266 Kudos: 2194 Votes: 19 Registered: 18-Nov-2003 | My sister used to feed sinking shrimp pellets to her ADFs. We've also found sinking spirulina pellets, but I don't know how the frogs would like those. As for bettas, the best pellet is probably Hikari Betta Bio Gold, HBH also has a decent betta pellet. They will also eat freeze dried blood worms (as a treat, not as a staple food, because it can cause bloat) or well... okay, my bettas get a variety of foods. ~Meow. Thus spoke the cat.~ |

kitten Fish Guru Meow? Posts: 2266 Kudos: 2194 Votes: 19 Registered: 18-Nov-2003 | Feed sinking pellets to ADF's. They aren't terribly fast (or bright ) when it comes to finding food, so make sure that there's enough food for them AND for the betta(s) who will likely want to steal some of it! Alternately, feed the ADF's in a place where the betta can't get to... in a small cave, etc. Unless you wind up with very aggressive bettas (believe me, it happens!), you should be okay mixing them with ADF's. ~Meow. katieb Fish Addict Posts: 697 Votes: 69 Registered: 03-Jul-2004 | Zebras are very, very active schoolers. I wouldnt put them in any less than a 20gal. ADFs would work. A male betta and 4 or 5 ADF would be fine. Three females and 3 ADF would work too. I'll do graffiti, If you sing to me in French. |

kitten Fish Guru Meow? Posts: 2266 Kudos: 2194 Votes: 19 Registered: 18-Nov-2003 | In my five gallon, I have three cherry barbs and two black neons. (The black neons are left over from my original school and they looked lonely by themselves in the 20 ... they seem to like their cherry companions.) There's also two shrimp hanging around in there... somewhere. I have one male cherry and two females. Originally I had a cherry pair and a male betta in there, but between the betta and the male barb, the female cherry disappeared... that's why I got two females the second time around; I figured between the two of them, they'd take on the male's advances. I think in a seven gallon, you could get away with 3 betta girls, and then perhaps a trio of cherry barbs? Cherry barbs are so pretty... even the females, despite being more drab than their male counterparts, are very striking. The shrimp are interesting, but truthfully, I rarely see mine, no matter what is in the tank with them. Too bad, they're cute! ~Meow. Thus spoke the cat.~ |

kj fishy-finn Big Fish Posts: 385 Kudos: 200 Registered: 21-Jan-2004 | i would like to keep like 5 female bettas together in a 7 gallon tank. this is fine, right??? the inches on the tank give them plenty of room. in doing this how would i go about adding them to the tank one by one as i buy them. should i look for certain bettas that are nice and arent pushing the other f bettas around??? what personality traits would i look for??? how do i introduce them into the tank with other female bettas in it as i buy them??? kj fishy-finn <*)))>< 20 Gallon Album 5 Gallon Album |

kj fishy-finn Big Fish Posts: 385 Kudos: 200 Registered: 21-Jan-2004 | with the number of inches of fish that the tank can hold according to water surface area i could hold 8 bettas but am going with 5 instead. the tank will have a lot of plants for privacy and protection, so it should be fine from what other people have said up above. kj fishy-finn <*)))>< 20 Gallon Album 5 Gallon Album |

kitten Fish Guru Meow? Posts: 2266 Kudos: 2194 Votes: 19 Registered: 18-Nov-2003 | Five girls for a seven gallon seems to be pushing it... I had three SMALL girls in a five gallon temporarily and they were looking for more room. Remember, these fish are going to be a good two inches long, and pretty heavily bodied. Most of my betta girls easily outweigh my boys if you look at body size alone. All those big long fins are deceptive. I would suggest at least a ten gallon for five girls. For a seven gallon, I would limit it to three or four at the most. Unless you have some REALLY friendly betta girls, you're going to have SOME disagreements in your tanks. All my girls are pretty peaceful, but there's always a moment when one girl decides another intruded on HER swimming space or got to close to HER chosen speck of food. ~Meow. Thus spoke the cat.~ |
