so i dont need an air pump because they are labyrinth fish and i wasnt going to get a male anyway, i dont know how that came up anyway. do i really have to get a air pump for the 20 gallon since that came up again??? my filter pours the water in and that makes quite a bit of air bubbles in the process.

with stocking females, make sure that there are no super aggressive girls, and then plant the tank. a major factor is aggression. if u have a aggressive female that will hurt the others infections will spread like wild fire.

as with letting them go, it wont usually make a difference. at first, i would guess they would fight alittle jsut to test, but then it should die down. just remember water changes and feedings and they should be fine, but please i dont know why this came up, but no male.

You really do need an air pump. It will give the fish a lot more air in the water. The warmer the tank, the less air the tank will hold. Plus it is always a good idea to have it. It really jsut keeps the fish healthier and happier in the long run, which means they also live longer.
I am sorry I an kind of bad at giving explanations, so if anyone could help me explain this better that would be great. You should probably get an air pump for your 29 gallon tank as well. Depending on where your 2 tanks are going to be, you could jsut buy one large air pump to supply both tanks. I have 2 tanks side by side right now and I have thought about doing that myself except for the fact that my 10 gallon tank is completely empty at the moment . Seriously though, you should get an air pump for your tanks. It is improtant.

do i need to have a air pump??? what do you need an airpump for anyway??? in my 20 gallon tank i dont have a air pump, only a filter and heater. do i need to buy one or not???

in the 7 gallon i will defenitly have a heater and their is a filter built into the tank already. this is what i am going to get: http://petco.com/Shop/Product.aspx?R=8339&sku=882488&redirectURL=%2fShop%2fProductList.aspx%3fPC%3dproductlist%26Nao%3d12%26Nav%3d217%26N%3d24%2520115%26cp%3d2&PC=productlist&Nao=12&Nav=217&N=24+115&cp=2

i will have plenty of plants in it for them to hide. any other suggestions??? i think i am going to do a bag of white and a bag of black gravel in it.

I do not recommend 1 male and 4 females! Especially, in that small of a tank. Will you have a filter, air pump, and a heater for your tank? IF not, I would not recommend that at all. Some people might be able to get away with it, but thats not a good idea. The male will not do well with the females in the tank AT ALL! Please DO NOT do this unless you are wantign casualties out of this! They will happen if you put a male in with females!
If someone thinks this would be a good idea please correct me, but it sounds like an AWFUL idea to me.

As for 5 females in the 7 gallon tank they will be fine as long as you have a heater, a filter, and an air pump. Thet would preobably be a very pretty tank if you choose your bettas wisely.

basicly you just float them in their bags and as they water adjusts, they'll learn the mates. as far as aggression. its not easy to tell, just make sure that the tanks planted (either real or articifal plants) or plenty of places to hide.

my only other suggestion for multiple ladies, make sure to find different colors of course for a variety.

as far as 1 male with the 4? you better get a larger tank, and LOTS of places to hide. because their will be lots of hiding, or maybe just lots of fighting. basicly, i wouldnt suggest any male with female betta unless your doign it to breed.

i would say 5 females in a 7g would be ok as long as you keepup with water changes and tank maintenance.
but if you are going for that king of set up why now 1 male and 4 females?
